Family Favourite Minced Beef Cobbler
An oven baked savoury minced beef cobbler with cheesy scone cobbles
An easy, filling and frugal minced beef cobbler that the whole family will enjoy, even the fussiest of children.
I love savoury cobblers, there's something very comforting about them, especially when you top the scones with plenty of cheddar cheese, like I do in this recipe.
This cobbler features heavily on our meal plans during the winter months and I like to serve it with seasonal veggies, or failing that some peas from the freezer (to be fair it's usually peas from freezer!).
My lot would quite happily gobble a bowl of mince cobbler on it's own though. It's most definitely a keeper in this house!
TOP TIPS FOR MAKING MINCE COBBLER
Up the veggies by adding peppers, mushrooms and courgettes to the mince, or whatever veggies you have to hand. I like to serve this cobbler with easy roast sweet potatoes and steamed seasonal vegetables.
Make a veggie version by omitting the bacon and beef mince and using Quorn mince instead.
Double the recipe if you're feeding a crowd.
Add a tablespoon of caramelised onion chutney to the mince to give it an extra rich flavour. If you don't have onion chutney to hand, a tsp of marmite would also work well.

CAN YOU FREEZE MINCED BEEF COBBLER?
The minced beef cobbler can be frozen, although it's best to freeze unbaked. Take the cobbler out of the freezer the night before and let it defrost in the fridge.
This slow cooker chilli con carne is mild enough for the whole family to enjoy. There is no need to brown the mince first wither so it's super quick to prepare.

Oooh I LOVE the look of this and have saved for later - I'd never thought of making a savoury cobbler before! I have a great Peachick friendly dairy/eggfree cheese & chive scone recipe that I reckon would work really well on top of this! Thanks for sharing x
ReplyDeleteThis is delicious. So comforting. Our family love it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI know this may sound stupid but do I make the stockpot into stock? In the instructions you say...add the stock. You haven’t said the stock pot should be made up in the ingredients.
ReplyDeleteHi, you just need to add the stock pot as it is. I will change the instructions now so it's clear. Thanks for letting me know
